Benefits

We seem to take things very lightly when it comes what's rightfully ours,I've noticed recently the strikes that were happening across the country where unions for the first in my life time fought for something that I always thought should come first decent place to live.Right now as educators we rceive an allowance of R500 and we seems to content with, the price of houses have increasing exponentially whilst the salaries were not, on top of that we're expected to understand.May we should consider other alternatives to unions and form teachers forum where genuine demands will be made without being sold out.I feel strongly about this issue and i think we should give unions a mandate instead of them thinking for us.Lastly I think unions must be held responsible for any action that they undertook,by this I mean if they want us to go to strike we should be payed a certain amount by the unions otherwise why are paying subscription fee?

  1. Hola there!
I also think that unions are only used as a vehicle to advance greedy politicians' aspirations to catch and be part of the Gravy-train. A labour organisation or movement should not be in cahoots with the ruling party, because this makes the unions' task to fight for decent salary difficult.

Most educators are content with the mediocre salary and pathetic benefits that they receive from the gov, thus confining themselves to this uncomfortable zone only because there is no intensive monitoring and meeting of deadlines. Professional Educators forums will help address the ailing conditions that we find ourselves in, ensure that issues pertaining to the welfare of educators are addressed to the betterment of educators.

How can we as educators be expected to inspire learners to achieve and show that education can help better their lives whilst we are starving, depressed and unappreciated? We are expected to masquerade and maintain a professional look to fool the supposed ignorant learners. We are assumed professionals but we can hardly afford to purchase decent houses befitting the stature of a professional. Everything is going up, but our salaries. A politician with far less qualifications than that of an educator, earns thrice what an educator earns coupled with state sponsored benefits that they receive. Learners will want to be at school and adequately learn only if their mentors (educators) are are well remunerated, which will directly boost the educators ailing and low moral.

In most quarters we often hear people retort: "Teaching is a Calling!" Lest they forget that "Calling" doesn't pay bills. Maybe if most of our things were state sponsored and substantial discounts offered by chainstores to gov employees.

We are so content with mediocrity that like a dog at the end of a leash, we don't even realise it when the leash is broken...
